At-Home Whitening
At-home teeth whitening is an excellent option for busy people who want to whiten their teeth but prefer to do it at home in their own time. You will whiten your teeth using custom-fitted mouth trays and a bleaching agent.
How does At-Home teeth whitening work?
- You will be assessed for the type of staining your teeth have and the shade you wish to achieve. Impressions are taken of your teeth and custom trays are made to fit snugly over your teeth.
- When the trays are ready you return to the practice to have these fitted and to receive your tubes of whitening gel.
- Your dentist will explain how to put the gel into the trays at home and how long to wear them for. Usually this is 30-45 minutes every day for 10 to 14 days, if it is the first time you are whitening your teeth. You continue until you reach the desired results.
- Following at-home whitening treatment, you can top up the whitening when it starts to fade, usually approximately 10-12 months later. You can request to purchase extra whitening syringes at the practice.

Teeth Whitening FAQs
Teeth whitening is a process used to brighten the colour of teeth and remove discoloration. It is a common cosmetic dentistry procedure that uses whitening gels containing safe and effective ingredients. A prior consultation is required.
Discoloration of teeth is very common. Teeth can yellow or darken naturally over time, but lifestyle factors and oral hygiene can also significantly impact this process. At our Sutton dental practice we can revitalise your smile with our excellent teeth whitening options. Whitening treatments are now more reliable and effective than ever and are a great way to look your best, especially if you have an important event coming up. Our Phillips Zoom Laser treatment and At-Home whitening treatements are available both at the practice and for home use.
Results will vary from patient to patient, but our in-surgery and home teeth whitening kits are highly effective and have provided satisfactory results for hundreds of patients. We can best advise you on the expected results based on your individual teeth, current dental health, and more.
Unfortunately, they won’t, only your natural teeth change colour. Therefore, we recommend undergoing whitening treatment first and then considering any cosmetic work to match your newly whitened teeth.
Teeth whitening is a safe treatment and does not damage teeth if done correctly. Side effects can include sensitivity and irritation of the teeth and gums, which normally clear up once treatment stops. Many of our patients experience no sensitivity at all.
Teeth do not need to be whitened more than once a year. Constant use can cause teeth and gums to become sensitive, so frequent treatments are not recommended.
