Reduce and prevent wrinkles

Anti-wrinkle injections are commonly known as “Botox” injections and are a temporary injectable treatment.

When injected in small doses into targeted areas, anti-wrinkle treatments block the signals between the nerves and the muscles, causing the muscles to relax. Muscle relaxation prevents the formation of new lines and diminishes the appearance of existing static and dynamic lines.

By gently relaxing the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles, you can achieve a more rested and refreshed appearance.

Anti-wrinkle Injections FAQS

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections work by reducing muscle movement, preventing the skin from creasing and forming lines or wrinkles. The active ingredient in these injections is botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox), a neurotoxic protein produced by bacteria. It blocks nerve signals to the muscles, temporarily preventing them from moving. Over time, the signals return as the effects of the treatment wear off.

Can anybody provide anti-wrinkle injections?

Since anti-wrinkle injections are prescription-only, they must be administered by a qualified medical professional, such as an independent nurse prescriber, doctor, or dentist. In other cases, a prescribing professional must supervise the procedure to ensure the treatment is appropriate for the patient.

At Sutton Dental & Medical Clinic, only premium, UK-licensed brands of anti-wrinkle injections are used. There are three trusted brands that meet the safety and efficacy standards for our patients.

How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?

The effect of anti-wrinkle injections is temporary. The frequency of treatments depends on the severity of the wrinkles and the muscle strength around the affected area. Some patients may need treatments every three months, while others might only require them once or twice a year. Repeated treatments may weaken the muscles, prolonging the results. However, some patients might develop resistance to the treatment over time. Additionally, lifestyle factors such as sunbed use and physical fitness can affect how quickly the treatment wears off, potentially requiring more frequent sessions.

What is the down time / recovery time after anti-wrinkle injections?

After receiving anti-wrinkle injections, there may be minor swelling or bruising, which typically subsides within a day or so. For optimal results, it’s advised to avoid lying down, bending over, or exercising for up to 4 hours after the treatment.

What product is used in anti-wrinkle injections?

The active ingredient in anti-wrinkle injections is Botulinum toxin A, which is present in all licensed brands used in the UK. It temporarily halts muscle movement by binding to receptors and blocking nerve signals, a process that can take up to two weeks to fully take effect.

Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?

Most patients report minimal discomfort during the procedure, comparing it to the sensation of having an eyebrow hair plucked. The entire process is quick and painless, often requiring no anaesthetic, though a numbing cream is available if needed.
