How dermal fillers work

Dermal fillers are a gel-like substance of hyaluronic acid that is injected into skin to lift and plump out areas that have lost collagen as a result of the natural ageing process.

Hyaluronic acid helps absorb moisture and keeps your skin staying hydrated, which helps with maintaining a youthful look, thus injecting dermal filler into the skin improves skin quality and adds to any loss or lack of volume.

Dermal Fillers FAQS

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are composed of an injectable form of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally produced by the body. However, as we age, the production of hyaluronic acid decreases significantly, leading to signs of aging such as wrinkles and skin volume loss.

What are dermal fillers used for?

Dermal fillers are versatile and can be applied to various areas of the face. They are effective for treating deep or fine lines around the mouth (nasolabial lines and marionette lines) and frown lines. Additionally, fillers can enhance or add volume to areas such as the lips, cheekbones, under the eyes (tear troughs), and jawline. They are also useful for balancing the nose and chin areas to create facial harmony.

Why are dermal fillers used?

Dermal fillers are commonly used to treat facial lines and wrinkles that develop due to the ageing process, which causes a loss of volume and sagging. Factors such as hormones, sun exposure, smoking, lifestyle choices, and stress can accelerate visible aging as hyaluronic acid levels in the skin naturally decrease.

How long do dermal filler results last?

Results from dermal filler treatment can vary between individuals. On average, the effects of fillers are visible for up to six months to a year.

Is there any downtime after dermal fillers?

There is typically no downtime required after a dermal filler procedure, and it can often be done during a lunch break. Some patients experience bruising, swelling or redness, but this is normal and usually subsides after a few days.

How soon will I see the results from dermal fillers?

The results of dermal filler treatments are immediate, with visible improvements right after the procedure, although it can take up to 7 days for the full benefit to be seen.
